Surgical infection also known as surgical site infection is a type of healthcare-associated infection in which a wound infection occurs after a surgery. Surgical infection may have pus draining from them, can be red, painful or hot to touch. Other types of infections that mainly affect a surgical patient are post-operative respiratory and urinary tract infection, bacteraemia and antibiotic-related diarrhoeas.
